The Bailey is a holiday destination consisting of a quirky Shepherd’s Hut and a dog-friendly Holiday Cottage.
Situated next to the castle in the historic centre of Skipton, officially the happiest place in the UK and gateway to the Yorkshire Dales, the property benefits from a rural secluded feel, but is just two minutes’ walk from the centre of the town itself (and its award winning market).
There are wonderful walks to enjoy from the door in Skipton woods, or up on the fells. We have canals, steam railways, Bolton Abbey and the Yorkshire Dales national park, all within easy reach.

About the owners
Mark has spent 30 years in Corporate Banking – but decided that the trouble with the rat race is that even if you win the race, you are still a rat. He always dreamt of running a holiday business and decided enough was enough. When bankers became the new traffic wardens it was time for a change. Mark is the lead cellist with Leeds Symphony Orchestra and plays cornet in Otley and Skipton Brass Bands. He is a keen fell runner and cyclist.
Kay is a practising physiotherapist dividing her time between paediatric patients and her true love, veterinary physio. She qualified with a masters in veterinary physio this year and has launched a new business in Skipton – The Dog Physio.
The Bailey is the perfect destination for...
An outdoors holiday
Skipton is known as the Gateway to the Dales National Park for a reason! The town is surrounded by moors for walking or fell running, is on the route of the Tour de Yorkshire for keen cyclists and is a haven for dog lovers. The Leeds to Liverpool canal passes through the town and we are right next to Skipton woods.
A dog friendly holiday
Skipton must be one of Yorkshire’s most dog friendly towns. There are woods, parks and rivers for dogs to play in and a wide variety of quality restaurants, cafes and pubs which welcome dogs. There is even a café with a separate menu just for dogs!
A shopping holiday
Skipton’s award winning market complements the large proportion of independent shops in the town. Leeds is 45 minutes away by train, Harrogate is only 30 minutes by car and the beautiful spa town of Ilkley is 15 minutes away.
A romantic getaway
With the rise of the mini honeymoon (minimoon), what better destination than The Bailey, which is immediately opposite Skipton Castle and All Saints Church. Enjoy waking up to the view of the church across the sheep pasture.
