Skipton, oh Skipton! There are few places in the country as inviting as our wonderful town. In fact, over the years, we’ve been the recipient of many national accolades. “The Most Polite Place in the UK,” “The Best Outdoor Market in the UK,” and “The Happiest Place in the UK” to name just a few.
Needless to say, there are countless reasons to visit Skipton, from indulging in the vibrant culinary delights available in the many cafes, restaurants and pubs in the area, to the rolling countryside which surrounds our fair town. Our Bed & Breakfast, Shepherd’s Hut or Dog Friendly Holiday Cottage offer you a luxurious and ever friendly base to explore the surrounding town and countryside. With that in mind…
Here are 5 of our favourite things to do in Skipton.
Skipton Castle Woods
Skipton Castle Woods are undoubtedly one of Skipton’s highlights where those fond of the outdoors are concerned. Maintained by the Woodland Trust, whilst not a challenging path, it offers the perfect surroundings for a relaxed walk and an opportunity for you to enjoy nature at its best. It’s one of the most photographed areas of Skipton for a reason!
Skipton Castle
Skipton Castle is one of the most well known and visited attractions, not only in Skipton itself but across North Yorkshire. The Bailey is only a stone’s throw from the Castle and although we share a street address with it, we can often be found enjoying its character and charm from within its walls – a must visit for anyone coming to the area.
The Markets
Skipton is a market town through and through. Our week day market has been named the best outdoor market in the UK and offers everything from fresh fruit and veg to custom printed gifts and everything in between. The Skipton Farmers and Craft Market, which takes place on the 2nd and last Sunday of the month, was recently voted the best farmers market in Yorkshire and our annual Christmas market attracts thousands of people, who come to revel in the festive celebrations!
Our Fantastic Cafes
There are a lot of cafes in Skipton, offering a diverse variety of options for those looking for a break from shopping or to simply enjoy a relaxed lunch. Amongst the most highly regarded are the fabulous Cake’Ole, which is a welcoming and quirky cafe found within the picturesque Craven Court Shopping Arcade and the Kibble Bakery, which is perhaps the most dog friendly business in town (they even have a specific menu for pups!) Whilst both are famous locally for their delicious treats and welcoming service, they give you a flavour of just how much variety is on offer.
Eating Out
When it comes to food and eating out, we’re spoilt for choice in Skipton. Whether you’re in the mood for a delectable fine-dining experience at the critically regaled Angel at Hetton, would like to tuck into delicious, expertly prepared French Cuisine at either Le Caveau or Le Bistro Des Amis (both come highly recommended) or fancy something else… there truly is something for everyone!
This round-up has barely scratched the surface in terms of what’s on offer in Skipton so make sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page for more blog posts. If you’re thinking of visiting us in future and have any questions, please feel free to get in touch!
